Bois d'Arc Lake Permitting and Construction

Water Project Construction Communications

The North Texas Municipal Water District was building its $1-billion Bois d'Arc Lake project — the first reservoir to be built in Texas in 30 years — in Fannin County. The project included the construction of the dam/reservoir, pump stations, 60 miles of raw and finished water pipelines, and a 70 MGD water treatment plant. NTMWD needed assistance communicating about the project to encourage positive public sentiment and communicate construction impacts.

Sigler developed the strategic communications and outreach plan to support construction of the new lake including a project website, groundbreaking and milestone events and digital communications including advertising, social media and eNewsletters, a monthly project report for the board of directors and community elected officials, community public meetings, property owner outreach, communications of shoreline management plans, watershed protection and mitigation measures.

Bois d'Arc Lake and its associated projects including the Leonard Water Treatment Plant were finished on time, and the lake is now filling. The public has widely embraced the project.
