Dallas Water Utilities owns and operates Bachman Lake Dam in central Dallas. The lake was originally built in 1901 to mitigate flooding of nearby properties, infrastructure and businesses. Dallas Water started major updates in 2024 to the dam and main spillway to comply with regulations for dam safety and reduce flood risk to adjacent properties. Bachman Lake Park is situated in a lower-income, predominantly Hispanic part of the city and is extensively used by the local community for recreation.
As a subcontractor to Stantec, Sigler Communications joined the team to help Dallas Water communicate about the construction of the project to nearby residents and park visitors. Sigler helped develop the strategic communications plan and manage all project updates for the community. The work includes maintaining the project website, sending regular eNewsletters and updates, creating social media posts and communications, and producing videos in both English and Spanish.
Construction has proceeded on schedule with minimal public concern expressed. Park users have continued to use the park safely. The program has ensured Dallas Water is viewed as responsibly maintaining critical infrastructure while protecting a valued community recreation resource.
