Telling Your Story Through Social Media

A recent Associated Press story reports that elected officials are using social media platforms – including Facebook and Twitter – to announce or react to events rather than the press. Sigler Communications has been helping our clients use social media is a way to control message and communicate directly with you stakeholders for years. Here are the top three benefits of using social media to break news:

1. You can deliver your messages directly to your stakeholders without relying on the media to deliver them for you. You’re not at the mercy of a reporter or editor to determine if your issue is “news worthy.”
2. Your message is not subjected to media scrutiny and only your side of the will be told.
3. You can correct misinformation reported by the media, in real time that can be shared by your stakeholders to other like-minded audiences.

In addition to Facebook and Twitter, electronic newsletters (eNewsletters) are a very effective way to influence and inform audiences.

The Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado is one of our clients who uses social media and eNews to effectively communicate with both their members and homeowners who hire their members to design, install and maintain landscapes.

Tip of the week

Regular posts through their member’s Facebook page keep everyone current on industry events and issues (like using legal immigrant labor) that affect the bottom line. They also have a consumer Facebook page that provides seasonal lawn & garden tips and beautiful photos that engage and excite homeowners.

ALCC’s eNews ‘Tip of the Week,’ which has nearly 2,000 subscribers, directly targets not only consumers but media outlets like the Vail Daily, who reprint Tip of the Week for their readers.

If your company is not using social media, or not using it to it’s full potential, give us a call.
